Chewy Brownie Cookies

2/3 C. shortening.........................1-1/2 C. flour

1-1/2 C. packed brown sugar......1/3 C. cocoa

1 T. water....................................1/2 t. salt

1 t. vanilla....................................1/4 t. baking soda

2 eggs..........................................1(12 oz.) package semi-sweet chips

In a large bowl beat shortening, brown sugar, water & vanilla on medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs; beat well. Stir together dry ingredients & add gradually to sugar mixture, beating on low speen till just blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes, or until cookies are set. Cookies will appear soft & moist; do not overbake. Cool 2 minutes on sheet, then transfer to a piece of foil on a flat surface to cool completely. Yield: About 3 dozen cookies.
