Caramel-Layered Brownies
4 squares BAKERS unsweetened chocolate
3/4 C. margarine or butter..........2 C. sugar
3 eggs....................................1 t. vanilla
1 C. flour............1 C. BAKERS semi-sweet chips
1-1/2 C. chopped nuts..........1/3 C. evaporated milk
1 package caramels (48)
Heat oven to 350degrees. Microwave chocolate & margarine in a large bowl on high 2 minutes or until margarine is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted.
Stir sugar into chocolate mixture. Mix in eggs & vanilla till well blended. Stir in flour. Remove one cup of batter; set aside. Spread remaining batter into greased 13x9" pan. Sprinkle with chips & 1C. of the nuts.
Microwave caramels & milk together on high 4 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until caramels a re completely melted & smooth. Spoon over chips & nuts, spreading to edges of pan. Gently spread reserved batter over caramel mixture. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 C. nuts.
Bake for 40 minutes or until pick comes out with fudgy crumbs. Do not overbake. Cool in pan, cut into squares. Yield: about 24 brownies
