Cherry Nut Nuggets
1 C. shortening
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 C. sugar
1 egg
1 t. almond extract
2-1/2 C. flour
1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. baking soda
1-1/2 C. finely chopped pecans
Maraschino cherry halves, drained
Cream shortening & cream cheese. Gradually add sugar, beat until light & fluffy. Add egg & extract, beat well. Combine the dry ingredients & stir into creamed mixture. Chill dough at least an hour before shaping into balls, rolling in chopped pecans & placing on ungreased cookie sheets. Gently press a cherry half onto the middle of each cookie. Bake at 350° for 14-18 minutes.
