Chocolate Toffee Bars
3 delectable layers combine to
create this heavenly "candy bar"
Crust:
1-3/4 C. flour.....................1 egg
1/4 C. sugar........................1 t. water
7 T. butter...........................1/2 t. vanilla
Toffee Layer:
1 C. sugar.....................................3/4 C.
butter, cut into pieces
1/2 C. heavy or whipping cream....2 C. chopped toasted walnuts
Topping:
4 squares (1 oz. each) semisweet chocolate, melted
Crust:
Line a 13x9" baking pan with foil. In a food processor,
combine flour, sugar & butter till well mixed. Add egg, water
& vanilla and process until dough begins to form a ball. Pat
into prepared pan and bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes,
until golden; cool.
Toffee Layer:
In a large heavy skillet cook sugar over medium heat 8 to 10
minutes or until sugar is completely melted & syrup is a deep
caramel color. Quickly & carefully stir in cream (mixture may
bubble rapidly). Stir in butter, 1/4 at a time. Stir in walnuts;
pour immediately over cooled crust. Spread evenly, let cool.
Spread melted chocolate over toffee layer. Refrigerate 1 hour. Cut into 2x1 inch bars. Yield: 54 bars, 115 calories each.
