French Apple Pie
3/4 C. sugar..........................1/4 C. flour
1/2 t. ground nutmeg..............1/4 t. ground cinnamon
6 C. peeled & thinly sliced, tart baking apples (about 6 medium)
pinch salt...............................Pie crust for a 1-crust pie
Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon & salt in a bowl. Stir in apples. Pour into a prepared pie crust in a 9" pie plate. Top with:
Crumb topping:
Mix 1 C. flour with 1/2 C. firm margarine or butter. Add 1/2 C. firmly packed brown sugar & gently mix till crumbly.
Bake at 425° for 50 minutes. Cover pie with foil for the last 10 minutes of baking. Tastes best served warm!
