Hot German Potato Salad


9 medium potatoes...........................1/2 t. celery seed

6 slices bacon..................................dash pepper

3/4 C. chopped onion.....................3/4 C. water

2 T. flour........................................1/3 C. vinegar

2 T. sugar.......................................2 packages (12 oz.each) bratwurst

2 t. salt...........................................2 T. shortening

Pare potatoes. In a saucepan, heat 1" salted water (1/2 t. salt to 1 C. water) to boiling. Add potatoes. Cover; cook 30-35 minutes or until tender. Drain; set aside.

In a large skillet, fry bacon till crisp; remove & drain. Cook & stir onion in bacon drippings until golden brown. Blend in flour, sugar, salt, celery seed & pepper. Cook over low heat, stirring till mixture is bubbly. Remove from heat. Stir in water & vinegar. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil & stir 1 minute.

Crumble bacon. Thinly slice potatoes. Carefully stir bacon & potato slices into hot mixture. heat through, stirring lightly to coat potato slices.

In skillet, brown bratwurst in shortening, turning with tongs; do not pierce with a fork. Serve with hot potato salad. to recipes
