Bloody Mary Cake


4 (1/2 oz.) bottles red food coloring
2 Tbsp. Nestles milk cocoa
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix together and let stand, food coloring and Nestles milk cocoa. Cream granulated sugar and eggs. Add food coloring paste and beat well. Add buttermilk alternately with cake flour which has been sifted several times with salt. Add vanilla and beat well. Remove from mixer and add baking soda mixed with vinegar and mix into batter by hand. Pour into 2 (8-inch) well greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
