Joyous Chocolate Chip Cookies

A cookie whose crisp, firm outside & soft, chewy inside is attained by the use of corn syrup in place of some of the sugar.


3 C. flour............................................1 t. vanilla extract

1 t. baking soda..................................2 eggs

1 t. salt...............................................1 T. milk

1/2 C. butter.......................................3 T. dark corn syrup

1/4 C. shortening................................12 oz. semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 C. granulated sugar.......................1/2 C. pecans, broken

1 C. brown sugar, firmly packed

Sift together flour, baking soda, & salt and set aside.

Cream butter & shortening together. Gradually add sugars, & cream thoroughly.

Mix together vanilla, eggs, milk, & corn syrup, and add to creamed mixture, beating till blended. Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing well. Add chocolate chips And nuts.

Form into small balls, or drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 7 to 10 minutes. Cookies are done when golden brown, with slightly darker edges. When touched with a fingertip, a slight dimple should remain though cookie does not collapse.

Yield: about 4 dozen
