'Beauty At Home' Recipes

Scrub for feet & hands:

1 part cooking oil
1 part granulated sugar

Soften dry, winter-weary hands & feet by mixing together & working into skin to slough off dead cells. Rinse & finish off with a dollop of hand cream.

Hand Cream:

2 parts glycerin
1 part lemon juice

Facial Exfoliation:

Mix 1 t. baking soda with your facial cleanser & apply in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. Rinse & pat dry.

Body Exfoliation:

Massage sea salts & jojoba oil into skin, then rinse off in the shower.

Eye Makeup Remover:

Try using mineral oil, baby oil or petroleum jelly to remove mascara & eyeliner. Not only do they remove the eye makeup quickly, they moisturize, too.

Dry Hair Restorer:

Mayonnaise is a wonderful natural treatment for dry hair. Rub on just enough to soak the hair thoroughly, and comb through. Leave on for 30 minutes; shampoo well & rinse with water mixed with a bit of lemon juice. Give a final clear water rinse

Residue Removing Shampoo:

Combine your inexpensive shampoo with baking soda to form a thin paste. Apply to the hair, and work thru from the roots to the ends to remove styling product residue that causes limp hair. This is wonderful used just prior to coloring your hair. Don't scrub too hard on the scalp.

Green (Chlorine) Hair:

Follow this formula to remove swimming-pool green: Dissolve 10 aspirin in a little bit of hot water. Once they dissolve, add enough warm water to make 1 cup of solution. Work this well through the hair strands. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes, and then rinse with cool water.

Curing Dry Skin:

An oatmeal bath is great for dry skin & feels wonderful, especially on a hot day. Pour about 1 cup of oatmeal into a large square of cheesecloth and tie or rubber band the top. Hang or hold it under the faucet as the bath water is running. You can remove it from the faucet & use it as a soothing sponge for bathing to soften & moisturize skin- without a messy clean up.

Bath Moisturizing:

A few drops of mineral oil or baby oil in your bath water will moisturize your skin.

Soothing sore muscles:

Add a couple of tablespoons of Epsom Salts to bath water to soothe sore muscles.

To Brighten & whiten your teeth:

Brush your teeth with pure lemon juice & baking soda mixed into a paste.

Inexpensive Bath Powder:

Purchase unscented inexpensive baby powder. Pour some into a sealed container & place a cotton ball spritzed with your favorite perfume inside the container. Shake lightly & leave sealed for several days. When you open it, you will have your favorite bath powder at a fraction of the store's price.
