Apple Pandowdy
Pastry for a two crust 8" pie
1 can (20 oz.) apple slices, drained
1/2 C. packed brown sugar
3 T. butter or margarine, melted
6 T. maple syrup
Prepare pastry for an 8" two-crust pie, line pie pan with one pastry round. Stir together the apple slices & brown sugar; turn into the pastry-lined pie pan. Top with butter and 3 T. of the syrup. Cover with top crust which has slits cut in it, seal & flute.
Bake at 425° for 15 minutes; remove from oven. Make crisscross cuts about 1" apart through top crust & filling. Drizzle remaining syrup on top. Cover edge with 2-3" strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning; bake 25 minutes longer. Serve warm, and if you wish, pour on additional syrup.
