Grandma's Spice Cookies


3-1/2 C flour...........................1/4 t. salt

1 t. baking soda......................1 C. butter, softened

2 t. cinnamon..........................1 C. sugar

1 t. ground cloves...................3/4 C. molasses

1/2 t. ground allspice..............1 egg

Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, allspice & salt; set aside.

Cream butter A& sugar in a large mixer bowl till light & fluffy. Add molasses & egg; blend well. Gradually add flour mixture; mix well.

Drop dough by heaping measuring tablespoons about 2 inches apart on unbuttered, foil lined cookie sheets. Bake at 350° for 13 to 14 minutes or until set. Allow to cool on sheets 5 minutes, remove cookies from foil & cool completely on racks. Frost with lemon glaze-

Lemon Glaze:

1 C. powdered sugar

2 T. lemon juice

1 t. grated lemon peel

Whisk ingredients together till smooth. If glaze is too thin, add additional powdered sugar 1 T. at a time. Drizzle cookies with glaze. Allow to dry before packing cookies in an airtight container. Yield: about 3 dozen cookies.
