German Sweet Chocolate Brownies


1 (4 oz. ) package Bakers German'sŪ sweet baking chocolate
1/4 C. (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
3/4 C. packed brown sugar, divided
2 eggs
1/2 C. flour
1 C. chopped walnuts or pecans, divided (optional*)
1-1/3 C. (3-1/2 oz.) flake coconut
1/4 C. milk

Grease bottom & sides of an 8-inch square pan.

Microwave chocolate and butter in a large microwaveable bowl on high 1-1/2 minutes (in 30-second intervals) or until butter is melted; stir until chocolate is completely melted.

Stir 1/2 C. of the brown sugar into chocolate mixture until well-blended. Mix in eggs. Stir in flour & 1/2 C. pecans until well-blended; spread into prepared pan.

Combine coconut, remaining brown sugar & pecans; stir in milk until well-blended. Spoon evenly over brownie batter.

Bake at 350° (325° for glass baking dish) for 35 minutes or until a pick near center comes out with fudgy crumbs (do NOT overbake). Cool in pan on wire rack before cutting. Yield 16 brownies.

*if omitting nuts, increase coconut to 2-2/3 C. (one 7 oz. package)
