Halloween "Jack" Cookies


1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
6 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
spicy apple butter

Cream shortening and sugar together until fluffy; add beaten eggs, milk and vanilla. Blend together. Mix dry ingredients gradually into mixture and mix thoroughly. Turn dough out on lightly floured board and roll out to about 1/8-inch thick. Cut with 2 1/2-inch to 3-inch cookie cutter. Cut Jack-O-Lantern faces on half the cookies (optional). Place one teaspoon of spicy apple butter on other halves. Top with faces halves. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
