Death By Chocolate Cookies

2 pkg. (16 squares) semi-sweet baking chocolate, divided
3/4 C. packed brown sugar
1/4 C. butter or margarine
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
1/2 C. flour
1/4 t. baking powder
2 C. chopped nuts (optional)

Coarsely chop 8 squares of the chocolate; set aside. Microwave the remaining 8 squares chocolate in a large microwaveable bowl on high 1-2 minutes; stirring every 30 seconds until melted & smooth. Stir in sugar, butter, eggs & vanilla. Stir in flour & baking powder. Stir in reserved chopped chocolate & nuts. Drop by 1/4 cupfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. bake at 350° for 12-13 minutes or until cookies are puffed & feel set to the touch. Cool on sheets 1 minute, transfer to wire rack to cool completely. Yield: about 18 cookies
